#MOVIE #REVIEW – #MOM (2017)

#MOVIE #REVIEW – #MOM (2017)

Today we are here with the review of one more movie based onthe women issue released last Friday namely #MOM (2017), starring Veteran actress Sridevi, Akhay Khann, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Pakistani debutant actrors Adnan Saddiqui & Sajal Ali in lead roles.  The movie is directed by directed by debutatnt director Ravi Udyawar and Co-produced by Boney Kapoor & others. The movie is based on the alarming sexual violence on women in our society.

PLOT:
It is a story of a teenaged student Arya Sabrawal (Sajal Ali), who got raped by her classmate Mohit and his associates, one among whom is a criminal. The culprits are committing the heinous crime inhumanly dumped Arya into a drain presuming her to be dead.

The culprits by corrupt means are declared innocent by the Court and Arya’s Step-mother Devaki (Sridevi), a school teacher, aggrieved by the pain of her daughter decides to avenge Arya’s Rape in her own way which is not an easy job. She is helped by a private detective i.e. Nawazuddin Siddiqui but Crime Branch Officer Akshay Khanna comes in there way.

How Arya’s Mom is able to avenge her daughter’s culprits is the film all about.

ANALYSIS:
The movie made a point about the judicial system of the country where rapists are got freed by the Courts and the victim is traumatised. Like many such movies, the present movie justifies taking law of the land into hands which I think is a grim situation for the largest democracy of the world.

The movie shows a 21st century strong Mom Devaki, unlike earlier times mom who would have pleaded the culprit “Bhagwan ke liye shod do”. This is the Mom who doesn’t hesitiate to avenge her daughter’s rapists when even Court has let them free. The movie appropriately justifies the dialogue “Kyonki Bhagwan har jagah nahin pahunch paate, isiliye unhone Maa banaai”.

The movie is inspired by the reality of our society. I wish every woman who has been the victim of eve-teasing, molestation, rape, domestic violence or Sexual Harassment could get justice and no Devaki need to take law into her hands.

The film is gripping and some of its scenes make you shed tears especially Sridevi’s hospital scene where she gets to know that her daughter has been raped. Background music by A.R. Rahmaan is just spot on.

WHAT’S GOOD:
Gripping story, great direction and spectacular acting by all the star cast especially Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who is a treat to watch in a new avatar.

LOOP HOLES, WHAT I THINK:
Sridevi’s hindi accent as a North Indian mother.

STAR PERFORMANCES:
Sridevi once again proves that she one of the greatest actors, the Bollywood has ever produced. She has played Devaki with such a perfection that it look like she is actually living the character.

As always Nawazuddin Siddiqui is outstanding. He has played the role of a private detective with perfection. I just loved it.

Akshay Khanna too impressed with role of a tough cop.

Pakistani actors Adnan Siddiqui also played the role of grief stricken father brilliantly and Sajal Ali also put up a nice performance.

FINAL WORDS:
A Must watch movie. We need Moms like Devaki, who can protect their daughters from the wolves roaming here and there.

My ratings for this movie is 3 out of 5 stars.

So keep following the page, good day till the next review
